Pesticide Sickens Peruvian Workers by Elaine Hennig

At least 378 Peruvian farm workers became sick after inhaling a pesticide that was sprayed on an adjacent property. The workers, who were mostly women, arrived at the farm hours after the nearby land was sprayed. However, they still became sick, and showed symptoms of vomiting, dizziness, and pain. They were treated in a nearby hospital. Because of a timely response from the hospital. most of the patients were released the same night after treatment.

The article has a positive influence, because the workers are okay and no one died or was severely injured. However, what happened does raise concern. Whoever sprayed the pesticide should be aware that it can affect humans, and should have responded accordingly. If the proper precautions were followed, then maybe no one would have gotten sick. It is important to know that things like this can affect many lives- and in this case, almost 400 lives!

  2. I wonder if this a common occurrence? They should have realized the spray is harmful for humans, and that workers would be near the sprayed land. Hope the women are OK and this doesn't happen again.
