Squirrels on Birth Control By- Anneke Davis

The warm weather has resulted in a big increase in nuts that grow in various tree's, which has come down to a ridicoulous growth in the squirrel population. The gray squirrel in particular. Scientists and vets have given them sunflower seeds with birth control in them  to control their birth rate and decrease the numbers. The squirrels destructive nature has caused quite a few problems in farms, places like that, and the killing of trees.

A gray squirrel.

This article was written by Shannon Fischer for the National Geographic News. It was published October 24, 2012. I over heard some people mentioning something about this, so I went and looked it up. This article was proabbly in response to all the squirels that've been running around here latley, to the people who were wondering.

  1. I actually think this is a good idea! Squirrells can be pretty destructive and it's not like killing them, just "controlling" them.

  2. As humans, we are getting really controlling. Come on! Birth control for... squirrels? You have got to be kidding me. It sounds like a bad joke.

  3. Squirrels can be troublesome, so I guess this is a better method than killing all of them.

  4. This is a good idea but it sounds really ridiculous and I bet there are some bad side effects for the squirrells.

  5. It is a good idea- squirrels are pretty pesky creatures. Controlling the population of them can reduce damage, the costs of destruction, and even the environment. But if someone came up to me and said squirrels were on birth control- I wouldn't believe them. It just sounds odd.
