Uruguay legalizes abortion and government-sold Marijuana by Milan Hamilton

Uruguay's congress has legalized abortion and is making plans to sell government-grown marijuana. Both of these would be unthinkable in many other countries. Cuba is the only country that allows first-trimester abortions available to women, but no country sells pot for users to enjoy. In Uruguay, smoking pot is already legal and supplying weed is a $30 million business. President Jose "Pepe" Mujica entered politics after spending 14 years in prison during Uruguay's dictatorship. He gives away 90% of his salary, doesn't have a bank account, never wears a tie and drives a 41 year old Volkswagen  He is now 77 and is close to the end of his five-year term. He doesn't want to give orders because he doesn't want to be the chief, he says. Only Uruguayans can benefit from the moves, but still many Uruguayans are exactly happy about them. When asked about Mujica's performance, 36% approve, compared to 42% disapprove.

This is important because we need to know what is going on in the world. We need to know what the leaders of other countries are like so we know how it affects us when we make allies or go to war. This is also important so we can possibly help people in other countries if or when they are in need. This article was probably written for the people in Latin America because it affects them the most, however it could also benefit us as well.

  1. I did not know weed was legal in Uruguay. Well i don't agree with the abortion you should not kill a life that has not had a chance to live.

  2. I agree with Lashaun. Weed should not be legal in any country, because it is harmful to a person's health. Abortion is taking the life of a baby, without giving the baby a choice.
