Sickness in Peru by Sylvie Lednicky

Around four hundred Peruvian farm workers fell ill after inhaling a pesticide that their company, the Beta Agroindustrial Complex, sprayed the land in which they worked. This spray, for whatever reason, affected mostly women. Two of them were pregnant. These sick workers crowded the hallways of hospitals in Ica, the closest town to them. Most of the workers were discharged the night after the incident, after recieving treatment. They were vomiting, dizzy, and in pain before things were cleared up. Their company grows food that is exported around the world. I think that the Beta Agroindustrial Complex needs to be more careful with what they're spraying on their land. This is not only because we are most likely going to eat this food, but what will happen if they kill all of their workers by accident? This is why we all need to go organic.

  1. If the pesticide affected humans just from the air then what will it do when it's on the food we eat? The company should've checked if the chemicals are safe before spraying.

  2. I agree with you that all our food should be organic because their might be other incidents like this that we don't know about. We never know entirley what they put in our food.
