Hurricane Sandy Hits Jamaica by Maddie Ibarra

On the night of Wednesday the 25, hurricane Sandy rolled through Jamaica bringing winds up to 80 mph. The storm left nearly 70% of the island without water or electricity. The storm made landfall near Kingston about 3 pm. The storm was expected to bring rainfall amounts between 6 and 12 inches. "As of 8 p.m., the eye of the storm was between Jamaica and Cuba. Sandy was headed north at 14 mph (22 kph) and its strongest sustained winds had increased in speed to 85 mph (135 kph)." The storm was expected to hit Cuba and the Bahamas sometime in Thursday. Hurricane and tropical storm warnings have been set along the coast of the United States as well. By this time hurricane Sandy might be a tropical storm, but Florida and Massachusetts are prepared to be hit along with other states. The National Weather Service predicts the storm to hit this weekend. In all, the storm as only killed one many and left thousands without water, power, or shelter. The one man was killed by a bolder that was tumbling downhill caused by the storm's rain.
Its sad that people are put in danger by naturally disasters. I hope that these people know how to deal with powerful storms and know what to do after one hits. I believe that these people can recover but we should also look out for them.

  1. I think that's why we have such cold weather right now. I think it's because of hurricane Sandy nearby and it's causing strong winds.
