Venezuela Investigation into Senseless Indian Massacre By Kendall Ray

In July, the Yanomami tribe was hit with a terrible crime. Unauthorized Brazilian gold miners attacked and killed about 80 Indians for no apparent reason. Venezuela officials are finally looking into the dreaded scene.
The Yanomami tribe has always been known as a peaceful group and has never caused any reason for anyone to harm them. This is why it came a complete surprise when the public first heard of the massacre. The only way that there are any survivors is because a few members of the tribe went out to hunt. When the came back they found the burned bodies of their fellow tribal members.
Members of the Yanomami tribe live in Venezuela and Brazil and the killings took place near the Brazilian border. The tribe had been under a substantial amount of pressure in the recent years due to mines searching their land for anything of value that they could get there hands on. On top of that, these greedy gold miners have passed on diseases such as malaria and flu to the Yanomami people.
Because of the location of the crime, it has been very hard to really look into what happened. What we can tell is that the gold miners had no other reason to end these peoples lives other than to get some profits. It dumbfounds me how horrible people are. Hopefully, the Venezuelan government will find the criminals and bring justice to the Yanomami people.

The Yanomami are considered the largest indigenous group in the Americas that remains largely untouched by the outside world.
