Haiti Epidemic By: Hannah Kerman

In 2010 just after Haiti had their awful earthquake that killed and ruined thousands of people, a cholera outbreak happened. The people of Haiti blamed the United Nations because they were near a river and apparently the disease spread downriver and the people of Haiti got it. An estimated 8,300 people died from the disease and many more, survived the illness. It didn't help that their lives had already been harmed by the earthquake. The people of Haiti are suing the UN for the loss of their people's lives and because they "brought it to them."
I think that this is awful especially since the people of Haiti were weak and the UN was trying to help not cause an epidemic. If it really is the UN's fault, I don't see how suing them would help their country. I mean, yeah they would gain some money, but if an earthquake happened again or some terrible disaster, the UN may not want to help in fear that they would cause another epidemic or just get sued again. It's not like (if it was the UN's fault) they wanted that disease to spread, all they wanted was to help.
