Lionfish infestation Andrew Tunell

Recently in the Atlantic Ocean many fishermen have had trouble catching as many lobster, instead there catching mostly Lionfish. The lion fish are non native to the Atlantic Ocean where they have no predator other than humans and are know to wipe out up to 90% of a population in an area. Lionfish have poisonous spines to kill prey and can reproduce very rapidly. Scientists speculate that the fish were introduced by Florida pet owners and the population can be traced back to 6-8 fish.

I think this is a very serious problem for the fisherman and the ecosystem in the Atlantic Ocean. These fish are non native and are disrupting the population of fish in the Atlantic. I think its good though that the community is making a effort to get rid of the fish.

  1. Fisherman have been messing with the Ecosystem for a long time. They catch all the big fish, which gradually lowers the population of big fish, so that something like this can happen.

  2. I wonder wat the outcome will be if the lionfish aren't contained. Perhaps one day that will be the only fish left. If our world makes it that long, of course.

  3. Invasive species are never good, I hope they get rid of them, I just wish there was a way to do that without killing them.
