Two British Women Put in Brazilian Jail for Drug Smuggling by Bob Cummins

Natasha Phiri and Nancy Barney were recently caught trying to smuggle 8 pounds of cocaine in suitcases from Brazil to the United Kingdom.  The drugs were found in one of their suitcases by a sniffer dog.  After they were arrested, they told the officers that they collected the suitcases without knowing of the cocaine in them.  They said that a man named Romeo, who apparently paid for their trip to Brazil, told theem to pick up the bags.  The judge of their case stated that their defense was filled with holes and contradictions.  They have been sentenced to 7 years at the Women's Penitentiary in São Paulo and were fined for £4,400.

They gave a very weak testimony in my opinion.  Who in his right mind would go on a flight paid for by an acquaintance (they didn't even state this "Romeo"'s last name) and pick up some suitcases for a stranger without bothering to even look in them?  I see this as a weak lie to get them out of jail.  They probably went to Brazil in the first place to get the drugs and take them back to England!

  1. I'm glad these woman where brought to justice. I mean who picks up a suitcase for a total stranger without taking a quick peek inside to make sure its not something sketchy....LIKE COCAINE! Or a better question who lets a complete stranger pay for their trip to a corrupt country without doing a very detailed background check first?
