Marathon Runner in Colorado doesn't breathe for a month by Josie Blossfeld

Summary: Victor Carlos, a Marathon runner in Denver, Colorado, has survived a month without taking a single breath. A machine has been pushing oxygen through his body after he had suffered from an acute bacterial infection, and developed an acute respiratory distress syndrome which had been attacking his lungs. Through a procedure called ECMO (extra-corporeal membrane oxygenation), doctors inserted a special tube into his heart that would help him breath normally again. It didn't seem to be working at first, but finally, his lungs just started to open up on their own! Now Carlos can run marathons again, and he's lost 30 pounds since the surgery, a whole new man.

Analysis: It's a miracle that Carlos's lungs opened back up! I'm glad he can be with his family and friends. I'd also like to think that it was partially medical technology we had today that helped his body to fight the infection, not just miracles, but I hope they get it looked into why it took so long to happen and how they could better improve the machine that they were working with to help others like Carlos sooner.
