L.A. buildings might collapse during an earthquake? -Julianne Swaykus

According to the Times analysis, more than 1,000 concrete buildings in Los Angeles have a possiblity of collapsing during an earthquake. "Despite their sturdy appearance, many older concrete buildings are vulnerable to the sideways movement of a major earthquake because they don't have enough steel reinforcing bars to hold columns in place." Apparently L.A. officials have known about this danger for more than 40 years but haven't forced the owners to make their properties safer.
This really scares me. Not only people that work in the buildings could die or have major injuries, but also people around the building. This issue need to be taken more seriously.
