Elle Holland Current Event #14

Because the current financial crisis in Venezuela, the government has seized over 5 million toys from distributors putting a real damper on the holidays this year there. The government claims the distributer was going to sell them at inflated prices which would have been bad for their economy. Many families and children will have to go without toys this year. This makes the Venezuelan government the "grinch" who stole christmas.

I think it is terrible that these kids will have to go without presents on chritmas this year. however i do think it is good that the government is trying to sell some of these toys at low prices so some families in impoverished neighborhoods can still have a merry christmas.

  1. That is just sad, why would they take away not only a child's hope but their actual happiness. This is probably the only time a year they will ever receive such joy.

  2. I concur, for you shouldn't ruin the holidays for the kids. Sure, the country is low on money, but there have to be other ways to acquire funds.
