Grace Biltz Post | John Glenn

It was a historic moment when in 1962, astronaut John Glenn left the earth's atmosphere and circled the earth 3 times. He then successfully splashed down into the Atlantic Ocean. This changed the space race with the Soviet Union. Before that Yuri Gagarin, from the Soviet Union, was the first human to leave earth's atmosphere. So Glenn was a hero to everyone in the United States because he risked his life to help us enter the space age.
John Glenn accomplished much more. He was a U.S. democratic senator from Ohio for 24 years. He also was a decorated combat veteran in the Korean War. In 1998, Glenn returned to space on the Discovery space shuttle. With that flight, he became the oldest person to travel in space. On December 8, 2016, John Glenn died at the age of 95.

All of John Glenn's accomplishments took courage. He can certainly be proud of what he has done. We should be thankful for his contribution in helping to make the U.S. a great country. He is definitely an inspiration for us to pursue what we want to do and have courage. John Glenn made history!
