Elle Holland Current Event #13

Recently, researchers have discovered genomic evidence of malaria in 2000-year-old human remains from the roman empire. They used DNA fragments from the teeth of 58 adults and 10 children that were buried in three imperial-period italian cemeteries. The researchers estimated that malaria killed off as many people in the roman empire as it does in Africa today (A lot). In 2015, malaria was the cause of about 438,000 deaths in Africa and so we now believe that this disease contributed to the fall of the roman empire.

It is crazy that even today we are adding more and more facts and information to history that we have had for thousands of years. I like that this article contributed to information we are learning in class. We are having the same problem problem now with Malaria as they did back then which is crazy.
