Conjoined twins separated Teaghan Ortega

http://www.cnn.com/2016/10/14/health/conjoined-twins-separation-surgery/index.html

It took  27 hours of surgery to seperate twin boys Anias and Jadon McDonald.  They were born joined at the head 13 months ago and friday they began new lives alone.  The operation took place at the Children's Hospital at Montefiore Medical Center in the Bronx.  The separation took 16 hours and then more hours of surgery to rebuild their skulls and make them whole.
The surgery doing the speration was Dr. James Goodrich, the leading expert on craniopagus surgery.
This was the 59th craniopagus separation surgery in the world since 1952.  The surgery carried major risks, including the possibility of death or long-term brain damage.  Not seperating the twins, however, carried other risks: 80% of twins joined at the head die of medical complications by age 2 if not separated.
The surgery was a success and now we will see what happens moving forward.
I think that this type of news is so amazing!  The way that our brains have developed and we have gotten to a place where we can seperate babies like this is so awesome.  This condition only occurs in 1 in 2.5 million babies. I know that many people think that we shouldn't use too much technology but this is one benefit.  If these boys can live normal lives and were saved by the seperation, than it is worth it!

    1. I think this is quite interesting and great news. I had no idea that this kind of thing could happen to babies, let alone occurring in 1 in 2.5 million babies. I am glad that these young boys were saved and can live a nice normal life. This moment/event is such a big deal. I didn't know with the help of technology, we can save lives.

    2. I agree, this was a remarkable procedure. It is great that the twins are safe. With new technology, I am looking forward to see what other medical miracles will come along in the future.
