Listeria has been raising a concern for almost a year now, contaminating Blue Bell ice cream and protein bars. Many ice cream and protein bar flavors that include cookie dough are the ones being recalled. Although the cookie dough does not contain eggs, Chocolate Shoppe Ice Cream Co. has recalled theirs due to concerns. It seems that the recalling of ice cream is more a chain reaction. It started with Chocolate Shoppe Ice Cream Co. and then spread to Blue Bell, which prompted Blue Bunny to recall as well. We know listeria has been a common issue in ice cream, but now Nutrisystem has voluntarily recalled their cookie dough protein bar. Overall, these companies seem to be taking precautionary measures to keep their customers safe.
I believe that the listeria outbreak is a problem the needs to be addressed. Is there something they could use to test the ice cream before putting it in stores? I think the companies should close for the time being, until they find out the cause of listeria. This should not be a reoccurring issue, the companies will hopefully fix it from now on, and we will not have to readdress the contamination in the future.
