Teen commits suicide with family present, Amy Mills

On November 29, Brandy Vela shot herself in the chest due to constant cyberbullying. On that day, Brandy's older sister, Jaqueline, heard crying upstairs and found her sister there. “And I looked in her room and she’s against the wall and she has a gun pointed at her chest and she’s just crying and crying and I’m like, 'Brandy please don’t, Brandy no,'” Jaqueline told KPRC-TV. “We tried to persuade her to put the gun down, but she was determined,” Brandy Vela’s father, Raul Vela, told KHOU-TV. “She said she’d come too far to turn back. It was very unfortunate that I had to see that. It’s hard when your daughter tells you to turn around. You feel helpless.” The 18 year old was cyberbullied before her death. Raul Vela said that an online user or users posted “nasty things” about his daughter and set up a false account about the teen. He said the harassment sometimes kept her up at night, because her phone kept ringing. Jaqueline claims that her sister would have to deal with fake dating websites that included her picture and phone number and would say that Brandy was giving herself up for sex for free, and to call her. “I’m glad you got what you wanted,” Brandy Vela’s brother, Victor Vela, told KPRC-TV, directed at her bullies. “I hope this makes you happy.”

  1. This is such a terrible thing. Why do people get joy out of tormenting other people?

  2. Honestly I don't get how someone could be terrible enough to torment the girl so much. Why would they give away her phone number as well I hope the bullies get what they deserve.

  3. wow... its really sad that the bullying was taken so far. If the parents knew that there child was having issues they should have gotten her professional help. Shame on the bully for provoking this, they will have to live knowing what they have done.

  4. It's horrible the girl felt that taking her life was the end. I hope the person is happy for what they have accomplished.

  5. This is so awful. No one should ever feel the need to commit suicide due to cyberbullying. Hopefully, in the future we can develop applications that make teens think twice before posting something rude on the internet.

  6. Every time I see some one in such a bad situation that they want to take their life, it hurts my heart. I really need the people of this world to grow up. Also it's never right for people to make other people feel that bad. The world isn't fair in so many ways and I really wish the world can just improve in the way we treat eachother.
