3 Die from Hot Air Balloon Collision by Elaine Hennig

Three Brazilian tourists were killed after two hot air balloons collided in Turkey, in the popular tourist destination, Cappadocia. 22 others were injured. There are varying accounts of how the accident occurred. Abdurrahman Savas, the region's governor, said that the basket of one balloon hit the balloon envelope of the other. A town spokesman said that the bottom of one balloon hit the top of the other, causing it to fall down. The injured tourists (from Brazil, Argentina, and Spain) were taken to a nearby hospital and were even visited by the governor.

According to the article, this crash was the latest of a string of hot air balloon crashes this year. In February, a crash in Egypt killed 19 people. This is really scary. It sounds like more safety needs to be practiced when flying hot air balloons.

  1. This IS scary! I agree with you, Elaine. I hope they improve the safety of the hot air balloons or be well-aware where other balloon's flight routes are in the sky.

  2. That hot air balloons can crash into each other. Maybe they shouldn't fly a large amounts of balloons in one place.
