The australian federal police, australian customs and Border Protection Service, Australian crime commission, australian tax office and anti-money laundering agency AUSTRAC make up taskforce jericho. The federal government is investing 5.6 million in jericho and an operation similar to that in Melbourne on the back of a successful crackdown on crime in Sydney's cargo system. Home Affairs Minister Jason Clare says crime groups operating in the cargo industry are costing the economy. He said, "It cost our economy $15 billion a year." Mr. Clare also says that serious organized crime groups target law enforcement, the private cargo industry and the cargo supply chain. Jason Clare says the Brisbane and Melbourne operations would crack down in organized crime and significantly overhaul security of the waterfront and cargo supply chain. I agree with Mr. Clare because the only thing that can come from the Brisbane and Melbourne operations will be bad but at the same time it will benefit the people by lowering crime rates. The people with basically be protected but their wallets would be getting hurt since so much money is being put into both of the operations. This is a situation where they are stuck between a rock and a hard place because either decision will hurt the people. If they don't successfully put these operations into work, crime will continue and probably increase. But if they do go long with the operations, the economy will be hurt very badly from the loss of $5.6 million a year that is needed for the operation.
