Outbreak Danger by Madeline Ibarra

Through out the years, many diseases have been eradicated from Australia. No matter how hard they try though, the diseases always seem to find their way back into the country. Many diseases such as cholera, typhoid, diphtheria and tuberculosis are brought into the county by tourists, planes, and boats. In 2010 alone, there were 10 cases of cholera, 123 cases of typhoid fever, 1323 cases of tuberculosis, 4 cases of leprosy, one case of Japanese encephalitis, and 4 cases of diphtheria. All of these diseases have been picked up by locals when visitors, immigrants, and tourists have the disease but do not show symptoms. There are no official screening  for disease when a person goes into the country except a screening for polio, and even officials say that it is not 100% effective. Also, vaccines for the incoming diseases are not available for younger children because of the limited supply. Doctors predict that this year will be filled with measles outbreaks.
To have so many diseases and you not being able to do anything about it is terrifying. I think that Australia should conduct more screening programs to keep their citizens safe from outside diseases and viruses. I know that there is not much you can do if you can not see the sickness or the symptoms, but I know that there is much more tat the government can do for its people.

  1. I hope the the government helps the people out. Meanwhile, people should start looking out for diseases and keeping themselves healthy.
