Two pelicans were found with arrows shot through their body in Western Australia. While one survived and is being rehabilitated, the other had to be put down because of internal injuries. Shooting birds in such a manner is illegal, not to mention cruel an inhumane.
The first bird that was put down was found with an arrow through it's chest at Soldier's Cove near Mandurah. A week later, another pelican was shot through both of it's wings near Samphire Cove.
The attacks were investigated by authorities. Violators of the law protecting pelicans in Western Australia will face a maximum penalty of $4,000.
