Turkish Blogger Sent to Prison for Blasphemy by Graysha Assoun

A Turkish/ Armenian blogger was sent to court to be on trial for blasphemy. The court decided to sentence him to more than a year in prison (exactly one year and forty five-day jail sentence). The man accused for blasphemy was named Sevan Nisanyan. He accused the Islamic-rooted government for persecuting him saying: "When I attacked the Islamist establishment they felt I overstepped my boundaries." He said that because he is an Armenian is changes things when you go for Islamic religions. Saying that what he did was "the height of boldness."  Because Turkey is a majority Muslim country, the press and everyone really think what Nisanyan did was bad. The whole big issue started with him writing a blog post that referred to the international uproar from a movie called "Innocence of Muslims." This film made fun of a greatly respected figure in Islam religion, Mohammed, which sparked riots and violence. Nisanyan realized that he was throwing fuel on the fire regarding his conviction. Supposedly, this is not the first time people have been convicted of insulting Islam in Turkey. A lot of press has triggered this issue and because of this the judge ruled "not to postpone the punishment" The judge said this because this is not the first thing Nisanyan has done, he has a record.
So, Sevan Nisanyan is serving his year and 45 days and not happily.
