In MOORE, Oklahoma 37 were killed in Oklahoma by a tornado. A monstrous tornado at least a half-mile wide roared through Oklahoma City suburbs on Monday, flattening an entire neighborhood. The winds were up to 200 mph, setting buildings on fire and blowing a lower elementary school away. There were no offficail confirmed deaths, but at least 60 people were reported injured, including more than a dozen children. Rescuers attented to a desperate rescue effort at the school, pulling children from heaps of debris and carrying them to a safer place.
Block after block of the community lays in ruins. Homes were crushed into piles of broken wood. Cars and trucks were left crumpled on the road. The National Weather Service issued an initial finding that the tornado was an EF-4 on the enhanced Fujita scale, the second most-powerful type of twister. Many land lines have been stricken and cellphone traffic has been congested. The storm was so massive that it took time to establish communications between rescuers and state officials, the governor said. At Plaza Towers Elementary School, the storm tore off the roof, knocked down walls and turned the playground into a mass of twisted plastic and metal. Several children were pulled alive from the rubble. Rescue workers passed the survivors down a human chain to the triage center in the parking lot. How tragic this is for Oklahoma after begin hit not long ago in Joplin. PLease pray for the families here.
The tornado season started later this year than normal. I think because of the cool spring and the hot summer ahead of us, we will be seeing more tornados all around or sever storms like we have had in the past week. Look out.
