Haiti's Death Toll Rising after Hurricane Matthew- Hannah Niara

Hurricane Matthew began to strike around 11 am on a Saturday (10/8/16). It was about 25 miles east from Charleston, South Carolina with 75 miles per hour winds.Hurricane Matthew first hit the southwestern peninsula of Haiti with winds of 125 miles per hour. This instantly flattened homes, flooded villages and homes, and separated parts of the island. Hurricane Matthew left behind miles of destruction in Haiti, and killed many, 336 lives were taken, more than 10 people  are missing, and 211 have been injured. I am very grateful that I have never had to experience such a traumatic incident. Because of this I feel that is our goal as American citizens is to provide aid to the people who were affected in Haiti, so that they can have new resources such as clean water, food and most importantly shelter.
