In August, New Zealand may become the first country in the world to legalize psychoactive drugs, also known as party-pills, for recreational use. These drugs have slightly mind-altering effects, and the bill states that any drug that wants to be considered for legal selling must undergo extensive and expensive testing done by the country of New Zealand. Associate Health Minister Peter Dunne says that he is worried that illegal drugs will soon appear in the market as a way to circumvent the government systems. The executive of the New Zealand Drug Foundation says that there will be a ban on advertising as well as making sure the drugs are packaged in "unsexy packaging", such as bland containers.
This article is important because it shows how much cultures change over time. Before, no one would consider legalizing any type of hallucinogenic drug or drugs for any kind of use, but now, New Zealand may be the first country to legalize these types of drugs. It seems that the ideas expressed by the government of New Zealand may pave the way for a controlled and safe way of selling drugs that before could not have found their way into peoples' hands other than from illegal sources.

Why would they do this? It sucks.
ReplyDeleteThat is so weird. I had no idea a government would even consider something like this...
ReplyDeleteTo even consider something that can harm people and cause people to do horrible things is disgusting. Drug use outside of medical purposes tarnishes a person and lowers their respectability.
