Australians Receive Death Threat Texts: Amanda Kipp

All across Australia this Monday, police officers sent out mass alerts declaring that text death threats that many people had received, were fake. Throughout the whole country, hundreds of people received a message saying "Sum1 paid me to kill you get spared, 48 hours to pay $5000. If you inform the police or anybody, death is promised....Email me now (email address of scammer)." Authorities are still investigating this case but similar occurrences have spawned from west Africa, specifically Nigeria. People unfamiliar with the internet or seniors may be fooled by this scam. Police are also sure that several people have already fell for this fraud.

If I had received this message I probably would've panicked! This is so scary but I am glad police found out this was fake. Still, it's terrible how people take advantage of technology and fear to get money from others.
