Colorado Flooding - Allie Gonzales

Summary:
"Mother Nature is Not Cooperating." That is the message Colorado has not yet seemed to over come this past week with horrific rain pondering the city. Heavy rain grounded helicopters making it even more difficult to search for residents with more than 500 people still uncounted for. Authorities fear that six people may already be dead. Up to 1000 people are waiting to be evacuated. Couple Tim Ferenc and Kerry Cerelli were woken up early one morning to what sounded like a rushing river. The outside of their home is a mess, although luckily the structure is still in pretty good shape. Unfortunately not everyone was too lucky. The floods have destroyed 1,502 residential structures and damaged 17,494, with more sadly to come. The town has already soaked up to 15 inches of rain which worries residents on more flooding and dislodge mud and debris. Boulder County alone will need an estimated $150 million to repair 100 to 150 miles of roadway and 20 to 30 bridges. This situation is beyond devastating but the city of Colorado is doing whatever they can to bring the city back to life.

Analysis:
In my opinion, I feel that Colorado is really doing all they can do under the circumstances of heavy rain and the number of people they have yet still to evacuate. It is very difficult to over come situations like this, but I know Colorado will be able to pull through and do what they need to do to bring their residents back to a place they can call home.

  1. I agree with how difficult this situation must be. I wonder why this flooding is particularly bad. Is it normally like this, or have certain factors been affecting it?
