Teachers train to face school shooter by Paige Kutschall

When you hear and empty clip falling from a gun, that is that best time to attack a shooter. Claims Zach Hudson at a free active shooter self-defense workshop for teachers and school staff members with his partner Mike Friedman. Because of the shootings in Newtown, Conecticut, schools are upping their game. Not only are they arming teachers and adding security officials, some teachers are taking the extra step to prepare themselves for an unpredictable tragedy. Many people believe that the only way to really make schools safer is to make these self-defense workshops mandatory for all educators. "It's very sad that we have to go through this kind of training to know how to protect our kids," said Marsha Taylor, a teacher of 25 years who works with young children. The workshops gave educators the tools and information on how to react if a shooter enters the school and ways to disarm the shooter.

I think that it should be mandatory for anyone that works in a place where they are taking care of children to go through this kind of workshop. Who knows if the day will come when people start shooting in day cares, or different extra-curricular activities. If someone walked into my dance studio with a gun, no one would have any idea what to do. I agree that it is very sad that we have to think like this, but we cannot control how other people we react. And no matter how hard we try, not every person in this world will be a good person.

  1. I am very happy that teachers are taking these workshops. It is giving them a upper hand to defending themselves and/or their students. You can never be too defensive.

  2. I agree with what you said. I'm glad that the teachers will now know how to safely protect the students so that they will not be harmed in the event of a shooter breaking in.

  4. I agree, its really good that teachers know what to do when a random shooter comes into a school. I think that schools just got a lot more safer for the students.

  5. This is a smart approach, but I also agree that it's sad that it's come to this. If only world peace were easier to achieve. But I hope this works!
