Miss America winner of Indian decent: by Paige Kutschall

Nina Davuluri, otherwise known as Miss. New York, was crowned Miss. America last night. Because she is from Indian decent twitter exploded with hateful comments about her not being American, which she is.

"If you're #Miss America you should have to be American"

"WHEN WILL A WHITE WOMAN WIN #MISSAMERICA? Ever??!!"

"Well they just picked a Muslim for Miss America. That must've made Obama happy. Maybe he had a vote"

Davuluri's father is a physician and one day she wants to be one too. Not only were people hateful about her religion, they connected her to terrorism.

"9/11 was 4 days ago and she gets miss America?"

Thank goodness there are some people that turned the other cheek.

"I'm not going to click on #MissAmerica. I could do without a whole bunch of racism directed at brown people right now. Thanks"

"i think its amazing that @NinaDavuluri was crowned Miss America. THIS is the american story"

"meanwhile in america, our country's citizens have officially reached their lowest point. #MissAmerica is Indian; GET OVER IT"

It makes me so upset that there are still Americans today that discriminate people because of how they look. Nina is an American girl, just because she is from Indian decent doesn't make her non American. Have you looked at the American Girl Doll Collection lately?

  1. I agree! I think it's ridiculous that people are arguing that her background is Indian. Technically none of us are originally from America, we came from all over the world! It's just blatant racism that they'd say only white people are American, and it's definitely not true.

  2. Oh you know Americans. They try to be as bluntly racist as possible, whenever possible.
Well, at least the really stupid ones anyway. I swear, nowadays, it's as if people are just typing the worst parts of their personality. There are barley any stories out about the internet has helped us. All It's done is made people more mobile with their friends and everyone else. It's as if they don't realize what they say here, stays here, on the internet, forever.

  4. Whats the difference between an Indian and a white girl, truly that's ridiculous! the fact that she won is awesome and they should be congratulating her not questioning her. I think that she has conquered another barrier of racism in the world and she should be applauded.

  5. This is insane! What is wrong with some people? She's just as American as all of us. No one is strictly American. We all have backgrounds from all over the world! These people need to stop being racist and realize that what they're saying is wrong.

  6. Some people honestly need to back off. I'm not a big fan of pageants but I am happy to see diversity and these hateful comments need to stop.
