Police say the suspects belong to a local tribe. |
A Swiss tourist in India was gang raped on Friday. She and her husband were attacked in near a village in Datia district. Six people were arrested by Indian police in the Madhya Pradesh state today. Indian politicians had begun discussing new laws concerning rape as these men were brought into police custody. A fatal assault of a Delhi student led to these debates. The 23-year-old was attacked on a city bus and triggered widespread protests against the treatment of Indian women. These protests sparked demands for tougher laws. Sexual assault cases are on the rise in India, though tourists are rarely targeted. The six men will return to court tomorrow.
The couple have received medical treatment and are assisting law enforcement. The men approached them at 9:30 PM and began beating the husband with wooden sticks. They sexually assaulted his wife in front of him. The assailants made off with all of the couples' valuables and money.

I am glad that they are killed, thought they are only a few of the many criminals out there.
ReplyDeleteRape is a terrible thing, and I'm really glad protesters are demanding tougher laws. Recently I've heard about a lot of assault cases in India on the news, and I think the press coverage is bringing world-wide attention to the matter.
ReplyDeleteI am glad something is being done about the treatment of these women in India and I feel horribly for the poor tourists who had to undergo such a traumatizing experience while on a nice vacation.
