A River of Haze: Natural Hazards by Corsica Steding

During January 2013 there was a thick haze over northern India and Bangladesh.  The probable cause is a combination of industrial and urban pollution, agricultural fires, and temperature inversion.  Cold air often settles over northern India during the winter and warmer air gets trapped.  Pollution also gets trapped close to the surface along with the warm air.  This has a major effect on human health.  One of India and Bangladesh’s major problems is air quality, and has been for the past decade.

The article does not state a specific author, but it was on a site owned by Nasa titled Earth Observatory.  Before reading this article I knew that air quality was an issue, but I wasn’t aware of any specifics.  This article was written to alert people of a serious issue that needs to be studied so that possible solutions can be found.
