Port Said, Egypt has been rocked by weeks of violence. At least 400 people have been injured in the fighting between protestors and police. Today, the city's security headquarters was set alight. The fire began on the ground floor as protestors gathered in the streets nearby. The protests, often leading to clashes, started in January when 21 local football fans were sentenced to death over football riots that left 74 people dead in February of last year. Violence has spread to Cairo where protestors blocked a main road and set at least one police car on fire.
The most recent of these violent protests began Sunday when word spread that 39 defendants still facing trial over the riots were being moved to outside the city. Thousands of angry protestors clashed with police, throwing rocks and firebombs. Riot police fired back with birdshot and tear gas. Three policemen died and many protestors were wounded.
