Cuba challenges Australia over tobacco packaging by Amaria Stern

Cuba has launched a legal attack on Australian tobacco companies regarding the type of packaging holding their tobacco products. Last December, a law stating that cigarettes could only be packaged in brown packages with graphic health warnings went into effect. The World Trade Organization (WTO) says that Cuba is consulting Australia regarding the legislation. Australia is reportedly breaching internaqtional trade rules and intellectual property rights. These plain packaging laws have received attention by health organizations because of their attempts to curb smoking.

I feel that that there are more important things that countries could be debating over, like how to reduce the amount of people smoking. If packaging laws are going to help that, then they definitely need to be taken seriously.
